MpenziPaper Studio

Paper for the moments that shape your life

WeddingsEventsLifestyleChildrenBusiness
Welcome

You've been looking for a print shop. What you actually need is a studio.

A print shop takes your file and prints it. Fast, functional, forgettable. We do something different. We sit with you. We ask the questions that matter. We learn what this moment means to you before we design a single thing. Then we build something from the ground up, something that could only ever belong to you.

We are a bespoke stationery studio based in Kampala. We work with brides, families, children, and founders across weddings, events, lifestyle milestones, and brand identities. Every commission is personal. Every piece is considered. Nothing is templated. Nothing is rushed. Nothing leaves our studio without feeling made with genuine care.

We started with weddings because a wedding is one of the most emotionally complex moments a person navigates. But we quickly understood that life is a sequence of moments. The pregnancy. The birth. The first day of school. The business that finally needs materials worthy of its reputation. The letter you still believe in writing. So we stayed. And we grew.

Our Wedding Collections All Services
"Where relationships run deep and occasions are marked with intention, the right piece of paper carries extraordinary power. It arrives before you do. It stays after you leave. It outlives the event itself."

This guide will help you understand what stationery pieces matter most, choose what fits your timeline and budget, explore our complete range, and feel confident working with us from the first message to final delivery.

Our Philosophy

We don't believe stationery is "just paper."

It is a public expression of honour and intention. A visual thread that holds your celebration together. A keepsake that remains long after the day has passed, the only physical evidence, sometimes, that a moment happened exactly the way it did.

There is something that happens when a person holds something beautiful in their hands. The screen keeps you at a distance. The paper closes it. You feel the weight. The texture. The way the ink sits. You understand, without being told, that someone took time with this.

"Your grandchildren might one day hold what we create together. That is not a small thing. That is the standard we build to. Not chasing a trend. Not producing volume. Building something worth keeping commission by commission, person by person, paper by paper."
Who This Is For

You care about how things feel, not just how they look.

Our clients are people who notice the things most people miss. The weight of a paper stock, whether a suite feels like a complete world or a collection of separate decisions. They have invested thoughtfully in other areas of their lives and arrived at stationery because they understand it is the missing piece.

01

The Bride, Groom & Couple

You're in the middle of one of the most emotionally dense experiences of your life. You know the first thing your guests will hold is your invitation, and you want it to mean something. You're not looking for a package. You're looking for a partner who will carry this piece so you can put your energy into everything else.

02

The Person Living a Life Worth Marking

You're not planning a wedding. You're living a life, and you've reached the point where you want it to feel as intentional as you've become. A pregnancy that deserves more than a generic notebook. A birth announcement that invites people into a moment. Personal stationery for the letters you still believe in writing.

03

The Founder & Executive

You've built something serious. Your reputation is growing. But when a client leaves a meeting with you, what do they hold? If the answer is "nothing much," there's a gap between who you are and how you're presenting. In Kampala, "branding" promises a lot and delivers templates. We don't promise branding. We deliver presence.

04

The Family Keeper & Cultural Traditionalist

You hold the threads of your family together. You ask about the proper structure for the Kwanjula invitation. You understand that getting this right is an act of honour to the living and the departed. We approach cultural commissions with the same care we give a Legacy wedding suite. Nothing is assumed. Nothing is rushed.

05

The Parent & Teacher

A child's first journal should not feel like an afterthought. A notebook they carry to school should be something they're proud of. We create stationery for children that is playful, age-appropriate, and genuinely lovely because the habits children build around their tools matter, and beauty is not a luxury for adults only.

How Mpenzi Works

We don't start with design. We start with you.

The first thing we do is listen. Not pitch. Not present. Listen. We want to understand the commission before we pick up a pen. Some clients arrive with a full brief. Others arrive with a feeling and no words for it yet. What matters is not how clearly you arrive, it is that you arrive.

Wedding & Event Stationery

The suite that sets the tone before your guests arrive.

Your wedding stationery is the first physical touchpoint of your celebration. It sets expectations, builds anticipation, and communicates without a single spoken word, what kind of day this will be. Long after the flowers have wilted and the cake has been eaten, it is what remains.

The Complete Wedding Stationery Checklist

What Your Invitation Suite Actually Is

The three pieces at the heart of everything.

For someone new to stationery, here is the simplest breakdown. Your invitation suite is typically three core pieces, everything else is an addition built around them.

Core Suite

  • Main Invitation Card The heart of the suite: who, what, when, where, and the tone of your day. This is the piece people keep.
  • RSVP Card How guests confirm attendance. Can include meal choice, dietary notes, or a song request. Pairs with a matching return envelope.
  • Details Card The practical layer. Dress code, accommodation, map, gift registry, schedule. Keeps the main card clean and elegant.

Optional Additions

  • Reception card (if ceremony and reception are at different venues)
  • Itinerary / Weekend card (for multi-day celebrations)
  • Map / directions card
  • After-party card

Envelope Presentation

The envelope is the first thing your guests touch. We treat it accordingly. Everything is enclosed in a carefully chosen outer envelope, with options for:

  • Wax sealsCustom stamps with your monogram or crest — 40+ wax colours
  • Envelope linersIllustrated, pattern-printed, or hand-watercoloured inside the envelope
  • Belly bandsPrinted paper wraps that hold the suite together before opening
  • Vellum wrapsSheer overlay printed with your names, a quote, or botanical illustration
  • Ribbon tiesSilk, grosgrain, or twine in colours matched to your palette
  • Return address printingOr guest address calligraphy on each outer envelope

Invitation Wording

What to include, and how to say it well.

Wording does not need to be intimidating. Here are practical guidelines to help you get started. We always review and refine your final wording as part of our process.

The Essentials Every Invitation Needs

  • Host line (optional) — "Together with their families…" or named hosts
  • The couple's names — in whatever order feels right to you
  • Event type — wedding ceremony / introduction / celebration / reception
  • Date and time — written out in full for formal invitations
  • Venue name and full address
  • RSVP instructions and deadline
  • Dress code (optional on main card; can move to details card)

One Language or Two?

There is no right answer. If culture and elders are central, bilingual wording can feel respectful and inclusive. If most guests share one language, a single language keeps the design clean. We can incorporate cultural touches, patterns, motifs, phrases, without making the entire invitation bilingual.

"Adults Only" Wording Options

"Kindly note this is an adults-only celebration."
"Although we love your little ones, we have reserved this evening for adults only."
"We can only accommodate children of immediate family, who will be named on the invitation."

Guest Names: Card or Envelope?

Many couples keep guest names on the envelope only. It allows flexibility if the list changes before mailing. If you want names printed or calligraphed on the card itself, we can do this as an add-on, but it requires a finalised guest list early in the process.

On-The-Day Stationery

Where everything comes together visually.

Day-of stationery is what makes your guests' experience feel complete. It guides them, orients them, and gives them something beautiful to look at between moments. When it matches your invitation suite; same typography, same colour palette, same paper aesthetic. Your entire celebration becomes a cohesive visual world.

PieceWhat it is and why it matters
Welcome Sign The first thing guests encounter. Sets the visual tone. Essential for photography. Available printed on paper, card, foam mount, acrylic, or wood.
Seating Chart Shows guests where to sit whether by table name or number. Large format. Printed on board, mounted on an easel, or produced on acrylic or mirror.
Escort Cards Individual cards directing each guest to their table. Displayed creatively on a surface, hanging from a frame, tucked into flowers.
Place Cards Names at individual seats. More formal than escort cards. Flat cards, folded tents, or printed on premium stock with calligraphy.
Menus At each setting or as table tents. Tells guests what they are eating. Also serves as a keepsake for Legacy suites.
Programs / Order of Service Essential for church weddings, traditional ceremonies, and any event with a formal structure. Helps guests follow and participate.
Table Numbers / Names Helps guests find their table. Numbers for large receptions; custom names, places, memories, shared moments for a personal touch.
Timeline / Events Sign Tells guests what to expect and when. Reduces the "what happens next?" questions and keeps the day flowing smoothly.
Directional Signs Parking, entrance, ceremony, reception, bar, restrooms. Practical but can be beautiful. Often underestimated in its contribution to guest experience.
Bar / Drinks Menu Cocktail list, signature drink names, bar rules. Displayed at the bar or on tables. A detail guests notice and photograph.
Guest Book / Advice Cards Encourages interaction and creates a memory you keep. A traditional book, a flat-lay print for signatures, or card-based prompts.
Vow Books Beautifully bound for personal vow recitation. A keepsake after the ceremony often framed or kept with the marriage certificate.
Reserved Signs "Reserved for Family" or "In Loving Memory" acknowledging loved ones who are absent. Handled with care.
Favour Tags & Labels Custom tags on gifts, labels on jars, wrappers on chocolates, stickers on bottles. The finishing detail that carries your visual language to the end.
Unsure where to start? Begin with the pieces that improve guest experience like seating chart, programs, directional signs, then add what enhances aesthetics: menus, place cards, custom details. We will guide you through what your event specifically needs.

Lifestyle & Personal Stationery

"I do" is just the beginning.

Life is a sequence of moments, each one carrying weight, each one deserving something real to hold it. Mpenzi was built on weddings, but it was always about more than that. The moments between the milestones matter too.

"Every chapter deserves something beautiful to hold it not just the ones with a venue and a guest list."

Investment & Pricing

Transparent, calm, and no surprises.

Stationery pricing reflects time, craft, materials, and production, not just number of cards. We always prepare a written quote before taking a deposit. All ranges below are indicative; your actual quote depends on quantity, design direction, paper choice, and finish.

What Affects the Price of Your Project

Design Complexity

Custom suites take longer and cost more than semi-custom directions. Custom monograms, illustrations, and bilingual typesetting all add design time.

Paper Choice

Standard cardstock is efficient and cost-effective. Premium cotton stock (400–600gsm), handmade paper, and coloured boards carry a materials premium.

Print Method

Digital print is most cost-effective. Letterpress, foil stamping, and embossing each add cost — and each adds a tactile quality that digital cannot replicate.

Finishing

Wax seals, vellum overlays, ribbon ties, envelope liners, and layered assembly all add to cost — and to the experience. We will always explain the trade-off.

Quantity

More guests means more printing, more assembly, more envelopes. Order at least 10–15% extra beyond your guest count to avoid costly small reprints later.

Timeline Urgency

Swift and express projects carry a rush premium of +30–50% to protect quality and the team's workflow. This is always confirmed in writing upfront.

Samples

Seeing and feeling your stationery before full production.

We offer samples in several ways, depending on your experience level, timeline, and the level of investment you are making.

Recommended

Physical Sample

Best when your project includes premium cotton paper, foiling, embossing, letterpress, or layered assembly. A physical sample lets you feel the texture and see the finish in real life before full production — critical for legacy projects.

Digital Proof

Every client receives a detailed digital proof — showing all artwork, typography, and colour — before production begins. No piece goes to print without your explicit written approval. Always included, at every tier.

Sample Kit

For clients who want to compare paper textures, foil finishes, and envelope styles before committing. Subject to availability at the studio. Allows you to feel paper weights, compare print methods, and choose with complete confidence.

Sustainability

Beauty and responsibility are not opposites.

We don't source the cheapest option that still photographs well. We source what is right for each commission — and sustainability guides every material decision we make. We believe beautiful things and responsible choices must coexist.

Recycled and sustainably sourced paper options available for every category

Tree-free alternatives — cotton paper and bamboo paper — available on request

Eco-friendly inks used across all digital print runs

Local sourcing wherever possible to reduce import and shipping emissions

Minimal waste in production — careful calculation of quantities to reduce offcuts and excess

Packaging designed to be reused or composted where possible

If you have specific sustainability requirements — recycled content, FSC certification, biodegradable packaging — tell us at enquiry and we will build it into your quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your questions, answered clearly.

Can I order more invitations after the initial run?

Yes. We recommend ordering at least 10–15 extra invitations beyond your confirmed guest count. Reprints are possible, but the per-unit cost is significantly higher on small runs, and colour matching can vary slightly between batches. Order generously the first time.

Can you copy a design I've seen online?

We don't copy other artists' work. We can use inspiration and create something original and true to your story — often something more specific and more beautiful than the reference you started with. Bring us your references. We'll build something from the ground up.

What if there's an error after I've approved?

Please review all proofs extremely carefully before approving — we review them alongside you. Approved errors, where the error appeared in the approved proof, may require a reprint at your cost. If the error was introduced by us after your approval, we will reprint at no charge.

How do rush timelines work?

Rush service is available for most categories. Contact us with your date and scope and we'll confirm feasibility immediately. Rush projects carry a 30–50% premium on the base price, covering priority scheduling, fast proof cycles, and expedited production handling.

Can you do stationery for ceremonies outside Uganda?

Yes. We have worked with clients in London, Nairobi, Dubai, Toronto, and across the diaspora. We ship internationally. For international clients, digital proofs are standard; physical samples are shipped at courier cost. We accommodate international time zones for consultation calls.

What happens if I need to cancel?

Because stationery is personalised, we do not accept returns. If you need to cancel, contact us immediately and we'll guide you based on the production stage. If production has not begun, we refund your deposit minus a design fee for work completed. If production has begun, the deposit is non-refundable.

Do you have a studio I can visit?

Yes, by appointment. We prefer studio visits for Legacy and Corporate clients — seeing paper samples in person makes a significant difference in the decision-making process. Contact us to arrange a time in Kampala.

Do you work with event planners and coordinators?

Yes, and we value these relationships deeply. We have a dedicated partner programme for event planners and wedding coordinators. Contact us to learn more about preferred pricing, referral structures, and how we support your clients together.

Can I get a quote before committing?

Always. We never expect a commitment before you understand what you're investing. Send us your date, event type, guest count, and approximate sense of what you want. We'll respond with a clear investment range within 24 hours.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes, for projects over UGX 3,000,000. Standard terms are 50% deposit to begin, balance before delivery. Payment plan structures are agreed in writing before work starts.

Ready to Begin?

Tell us about your moment.

No long forms. No commitment. No pressure. Just tell us what you're creating — we'll guide you from there and respond with a clear investment range within 24 hours.
